 Costa Rica has some of the most incredible beaches in the world, but some have strong rip currents and can be  dangerous if you don't know how to deal with rip current. Plus the most of the beaches don't have life Guards! So please be aware of that.

Surfing Beaches

Play Dominical Dominical is a Surfer's Paradise, famous its Epic Sunsets and for World-Class surfingPlaya Dominical the best beach for experienced surfers. Famous for its powerful, consistent waves and long left-hand point break, it offers some of the most thrilling surf conditions in Costa Rica. The waves are ideal for intermediate to advanced surfers, especially during mid to high tide. Sunset views here are incredible here. Not recommended for swimming.

Dominicalito is one of the best surf spots in the area for beginners due to its smaller waves which are easier to handle. It is a perfect spot to relax, snorkel, and explore. It’s also surrounded by trails and viewpoints. 

La Punta is a rocky point break that offers strong, fast waves. It’s one the best surf spots in the area for advanced surfers.

Playa Hermosa de Osa - offers intense wave breaks that cater to surfers looking for a challenge. Perfect for intermediate to advanced surfers.​​

Playa Uvita is part of Marino Ballena National Park. It is one of the best surf spots in the area. The gentle, consistent waves here are suitable for Intermediate Surfers.​ Famous for its unique “whale tail” formation, Uvita is a famous spot for whale watching during migration seasons. Also, you can take a boat tour for dolphin sightings.

Manuel Antonio National Park - hands down the best white sand beach in the area. Perfect for swimming, Playa Gemelas and Playa Espadilla Sur hidden Inside Manuel Antonio National Park, they are quieter and more serene and truly stunning, with rich biodiversity and opportunities for wildlife spotting. Worth a day trip to Manuel Antonio.

Epic Sunsets

Playa Matapalo -  is a serene, expansive beach located 20 minutes North of town of Dominical.  Famous for its crystal-clear waters, soft white sand, and tranquil atmosphere, it stretches over 5.4 kilometers and offers a peaceful escape from crowded tourist spots like Dominical or Manuel Antonio. Perfect for Picture taking, Sunset watching. For a perfect photo session come during a low tide. 

Beaches Great for Walking, Running, Practicing Yoga

Lava Crab Castle Beach - perhaps the most picturesque beach in the area. It is perfect for running, walking, practicing yoga, sunset watching. The best time to come is during the low tide so you can explore its stunning rock formations. You can find it, by walking south from Playa Dominical during the low tide.

Beaches with Life Guards
Great for Families

Playa Ventanas  is a scenic, family-friendly beach located just south of Uvita, most famous for its incredible rock formations,  sea caves, and strong waves ideal for swimming and surfing.  It’s one of the few accessible beaches in the area outside the Marino Ballena National Park, offering a relaxed, local vibe with food vendors and lifeguards.
